RYANHOOD: an evening to benefit Project Somos
Thu, April 20, 2017, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM EDT
So... have you ever heard of Ryanhood?
You may have caught them a while back playing in Quincy Market. Or perhaps it was when you saw Jason Mraz that one time. Or was it Matt Nathanson? Doesn't matter.... because you can see them right here in April when they help us support Project Somos!
These guys are AWESOME! Totally synched instrumentalists, super-tight vocals, great songwriting, and the rest just falls into place from there. And - bonus! - Ryanhood will have their brand new, 6-week old CD with them! Here's a sneak peek
And have you ever heard of Project Somos?
Well, it's this pretty amazing organization in Guatemala founded by our dear friends, Heather Knox and Greg Kemp.
Project Somos is an orphan prevention program, supporting widowed and single mothers who are at risk of losing their children due to poverty and difficult living situations. There's so much more to Project Somos than that one sentence, though! We are delighted to say that Heather and Greg will be here to tell you all about it in person. See more details below!
Ryanhood hails from Tucson, AZ. They were named the "Best Group/Duo in the 2014 International Acoustic Music Awards. Cameron Hood’s rich and folky lead vocals, Ryan Green’s explosive guitar and mandolin riffs, and their airtight vocal harmonies prompted the Arizona Daily Star to call them, “a match made in radio heaven.”
Their fifth and newest album, Start Somewhere, finds the band returning to the intimate storytelling and acoustic guitar interplay that was a hallmark of their early work as buskers. They currently reside in their hometown of Tucson, AZ, where they have won more than a dozen Tucson Music Awards including “Best Folk Band” and “Best Rock Band” (you can decide for yourself which is most accurate.)
About PROJECT SOMOS:
Project Somos is an alternative community for at-risk mothers and their children. Their Village consists of family homes, a large Community Hall, an Arts and Music Center, a preschool, staff building, multiple guest houses, a large playground, soccer field, and an organic farm.
An orphan prevention program, Project Somos offers a home, education and vocational training to help mothers provide opportunities and a new beginning for their children. They educate mothers and children in nutrition, health and hygiene, organic gardening, and the life skills needed for them to heal and return to their communities to live independently.
While living in the Village, in addition to their vocational training, the mothers also participate in Project Somos' social enterprises, providing long-term sustainability within the Village.
Project Somos believes that a child's best chance for happiness and success comes from being raised by his/her own family in a stable, supportive and loving environment.
