Event description

Description

This VHF/SRC course is a must for anybody using either a handheld or fixed VHF radio. The course is designed to be both fun and very interactive, providing hands-on training in the use of radios, a solid understanding of all the technical knowledge required and use of all emergency equipment carried on board. The course ends with a short practical and written test.

Course topics include:
• the basics of radio operation
• the correct frequencies (channels) to be used
• distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
• making ship to shore telephone calls
• Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators
• Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
• Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
• Search and Rescue (SART)

A Short Range Certificate is awarded on successful completion of the course and examination. This is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.

Please note that in addition to the course fee, an additional licence and examonation fee of £60.00 is also payable direct to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
