Author Jane Sherron De Hart in conversation with Professor Scott Dodson

In this large, comprehensive, revelatory biography, Jane De Hart explores the central experiences that crucially shaped Ginsburg’s passion for justice, her advocacy for gender equality, her meticulous jurisprudence: her desire to make We the People more united and our union more perfect. At the heart of her story and abiding beliefs—her Jewish background. Tikkun olam, the Hebrew injunction to “repair the world,” with its profound meaning for a young girl who grew up during the Holocaust and World War II. Ginsburg’s is a pioneering life and legal career whose profound mark on American jurisprudence, on American society, on our American character and spirit, will reverberate deep into the twenty-first century and beyond.

Jane Sherron De Hart is professor emerita of history at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She lives in Santa Barbara, California.

Professor Scott Dodson is the Geoffrey C. Hazard Jr. Distinguished Professor of Law at UC Hastings College of the Law. An expert in civil procedure and federal courts, Professor Dodson has written more than seventy articles and four books. His most recent book is The Legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Cambridge 2015), a compilation of essays on Justice Ginsburg’s legal legacy from academics, judges, practitioners, and journalists, which Professor Dodson assembled and edited. Professor Dodson is also a frequent commentator in the news, including appearances on the 10:00 Nightly News, NPR Radio, and CNN Radio.
