About this event
Your ticket is a donation to SCRAP. Donations of $100 and above will receive a complimentary copy of the new book by Marilyn Chase, “Everything She Touched: The Life of Ruth Asawa."
This virtual discussion honors beloved San Francisco artist and community organizer Ruth Asawa in an hour-long retrospective of her life and accomplishments as seen through the eyes of two of her children, Aiko Cuneo and Paul Lanier.
Over 40 years ago, SCRAP's founder, Anne Marie Theilen, united with Ruth Asawa -renowned artist and inaugural SCRAP Board President. They shared a belief in the power of an organized and passionate group of volunteers to make a difference through arts education and outreach into their communities.
From her young life on a California farm and inside the Japanese internment camps to her education at Black Mountain College, Ruth Asawa was always making things from the materials around her. In this talk with her children, Aiko and Paul, we share images that trace Asawa’s path from creative childhood to avant-garde art student to her life as a working artist and mother of six children. Aiko and Paul will trace their memories of how their mother used artwork to build family and community and how these values led to her activism for quality arts education in the San Francisco Bay Area.
All proceeds from this event are a donation to SCRAP.
We look forward to seeing you on Zoom!
