In its second year, the Rural College Access and Success Summit brings together teachers, principals, superintendents, non-profit leaders and many others to share ideas and strategies for ensuring that rural youth have the opportunity to successfully transition from high school to college and to career. During the Summit, college access and success programs that serve rural America will share best practices and highlight the unique challenges of increasing opportunity in rural America.

Registration includes breakfast and lunch on April 29 and 30. Summit check-in will be available on-site beginning at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 28. The opening plenary will begin at 8:30 AM on Monday, April 29. The closing plenary will end at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29. Additionally, pre-Summit (Sunday, April 28) and post-Summit (Wednesday, May 1) learning opportunities of will be available. Read more about these opportunities below!

PRE-SESSION: Sunday, April 28: 1:00-4:30 PM

GEAR UP practitioners are invited to a workshop focused on the challenges faced by those who serve students in rural schools and communities. This session will be interactive, and participants are asked to bring Power Point slides illustrating their program’s demographics and the unique challenges in their community, such as geographic isolation. A panel of experienced, rural GEAR UP practitioners will provide tips and feedback.

By sharing our challenges, the panel will help participants discover areas of alignment with other rural GEAR UP programs and outline opportunities to collaborate including the formation of a GEAR UP rural affinity group. Cost: $25

POST-SESSION: Wednesday, May 1: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM

Using Service Years to Increase College Access and Success

Spend the morning with experts from across the country who are successfully using service year programs to increase college access and success for rural students. During this four-hour session, you will learn what service year opportunities look like and how they can impact students’ college success. Guided by experts and practitioners, participants will explore the key actions for developing, organizing, implementing, funding and recruiting a service year program. Participants will leave with an action plan for developing a college access and success service year program in their rural community. Cost: $25 (includes breakfast)

The workshop is presented in partnership with the Service Year Alliance.

POST-SESSION: Wednesday, May 1
