Event description

Description

'How can anyone play guitar like that?' (Musicians Corner HC MN)

Rupert Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. In the late 1990's, he signed a publishing deal with Eaton Music and worked for several years as their house songwriter. He moved to Paris in 2001, formed his own quartet and performed regularly in the city's clubs. He came to the US in fall 2006.

Truly gripping lyrics with great themes and troubling, witty messages. An inspirational artist" (Leith FM Radio Scotland)

Since then he has received more than thirty songwriting and performing awards. He has recorded and released 9 CDs all of which received outstanding reviews in the online press and have been played on radio stations in America, Canada, The Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Israel and Australia.

"Rupert is a troubadour in every sense of the word: stellar songwriter; excellent musician; and an ability to connect with his audience and bring them meaningful art. Bravo!" (House concert host D. Bruce)

Between 2012 and 2016, Rupert has booked over 150 shows through the Concerts in Your Home Network. In recognition of this, CIYH hosts voted him one of 3 'Artists Of The Year' in both 2013 and 2016 (the only artist to be honored with this title twice). Well over 100 host recommendations on his profile page give some reasons why.

"A new and unique songwriter-musician already in the front ranks by dint of timeless work" (Folk And Acoustic Music Exchange)

Rupert's songs have been covered plentifully by other performers in the UK, Canada, and the USA, initiated and funded entirely by the artists themselves. Some may fairly be described as tribute albums to his songwriting.

In addition to writing and recording, Wates plays over 120 live shows a year in venues all over America, in Canada and in Europe, and has appeared regularly on radio and TV. He prefers smaller, more intimate spaces, where the audience is up close, where true musicianship counts, and where real emotion can't be faked. For all these reasons, the house concert environment suits him best of all.

'Our audiences are always blown away' (Empty Nest HC NJ)

We look forward to seeing you here!
