Event description

Description

Join speaker and local businessman Penn Ketchum for an evening of reflection on Psalm 23, how to find mindfulness in daily life, and his journey in recovery.

Penn stumbled upon the idea of rethinking familiar prayers, as a form of meditation, one day during a long training run as he pushed himself to keep going. As he found new words for familiar childhood prayers, he also found fresh insights. Penn's new book, Psalm 23 (in other words), invites readers to look at this particular prayer differently--in their own words. Every ticket bought will include a free copy of Psalm 23 (in other words).

Penn's faith and approach to mindfulness was dramatically influenced by his involvement with the 12 Steps in 1989 as he worked towards sobriety. He found wisdom in the mindfulness and intention of the 12 Steps, and continues to look for that "in the room" experience outside of the room in his daily life. Penn will talk about how his meditative runs have brought quiet and insight into his life and faith.

Penn Ketchum is the author and illustrator of the new book, Psalm 23 (in other words), as well as a previous book, Our Father (in other words). He is a Brooklyn native who now lives in Lititz with his wife and their two teenage daughters. Penn is the founder and namesake of Penn Cinema, an independent circuit of first-class, multiplex movie theaters in Pennsylvania and Delaware, including two IMAX theaters. Ketchum was the 2018 Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year and is known for his casual style, quick humor, and dedication to serving his community.
