Running Ahrens Harrier Academy: Winter Edition 2017
Thu, Jan 5, 2017, 5:30 PM – Thu, Feb 23, 2017, 7:00 PM EST
In northeast Pennsylvania there are very few opportunities for kids to get involved in running until they reach middle school Running Ahrens Harrier Academy will introduce kids to running at an early age through fun, instructional training sessions and workouts. We use the word "harrier" because it is another term for a runner, one that only die-hard running enthusiasts know. We call it an "academy" because our goal is to train and educate athletes to be successful in their teenage years and beyond.
Designed for ages 8-12, RA Harrier academy is for anyone who enjoys running, wants to give running a try for the first time, or wants to improve their running for other sports. No previous running experience is required! Sessions will be educational and focus on the basic skills and techniques necessary to be able to run further and faster than ever before!
We will work hard but we will also have fun! We want young athletes to see how enjoyable our sport is in hopes that they will embrace it as they move into middle school, high school, and beyond. It is the foundation for success in nearly all other sports whether or not they fall in love with running. Winter sessions will focus on speed development and include running (obviously) in addition to strength and flexibility activities, running form drills, games, and a brief introduction to various track & field events.
Running Ahrens Harrier Academy will meet on Thursdays in January and February from 5:30-7:00 P.M. We will meet in the Recreation Center at Clarks Summit University and run on their indoor track.
The cost is $50 for the final 3 weeks of the program.
