Ashwin ‘Afraad’
Ashwin is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of performing arts, history, languages, literature, and philosophy. He began his journey in the performing arts with his debut film Shwas in 2004, for which he won the National Award for Best Child Artist. His background in performing arts, combined with his passion for the Persian language, inspired him to create this performance based on the life and works of Rumi. Ashwin developed a similar project dedicated to the works of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, titled Shah Jo Risalo. His distinctive approach to philosophy and language has also paved the way for future projects, such as Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam and Bhushangatha. Ashwin also teaches Farsi at both basic and intermediate levels and conducts heritage walks and trips across India, which enable him to collect and share stories from the past and present. His work reflects a deep commitment to preserving and celebrating the richness of history and culture through storytelling and performance.
Sawani Shikhare
Sawani embarked on her musical journey at the age of 10, nurtured by the eminent Vidushi Manjusha Patil, whose guidance laid the foundation for her artistry. Since 2017, she has been privileged to receive taleem from two stalwarts of Indian classical music – Padmashree Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar and Sameehan Kashalkar. Her dedication and talent have also earned her a fellowship from MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul, fostering her growth as an accomplished musician. Beyond Hindustani classical music, Sawani is adept at performing various traditional forms, such as abhangas, natyasangeet and bhajans. Sawani’s passion, discipline, and versatility have cemented her position as one of the most promising talents in Indian classical music today. With a commitment to excellence, she continues to captivate audiences and carry forward the rich legacy of her art.
