Rumi Daf Ensemble band was created in 2018 and was formed by Jalal Kimia’s most dedicated and hard-working students. Rumi Daf Ensemble’s mission is to not only gain experience by performing on stage, but also to retain Iranian culture and the art on a deeper level by mixing poetry with music. This band’s calling is to introduce Daf to western culture, and also to bring people together with art and music regardless of race, creed, or color. Since ancient times, the Daf was used in traditional settings, in celebration, in Sufism, and in spiritualism. Rumi Daf Ensemble group held practice sessions consistently since July of 2021. Rumi Daf Ensemble has held various performances since it was formed, including at Carnegie Institute for Science, Virginia Tech University, and the Annual Conference of Chicago.
