At a recent gathering of diverse church leaders from across the country, Dr. Jerry Taylor said that racism will only be defeated by prayer and fasting. His comments did not negate the work of racial justice in our time. Instead, his words reoriented us to the insidious spiritual power of racism today and reminded us that only Christ can destroy a “dividing wall of hostility” (Eph 2:14).
Join us for a weekend of contemplative prayer, led by Dr. Jerry Taylor himself. Our guided prayers will center upon the racial divide in our world, churches, and in our own hearts.
In Dr. Taylor’s words:
“The RULS Contemplative Retreat is designed to take leaders into a deeper experience of God's presence as we pray and think together on God’s desire for racial unity among God’s children. Too often we enter into conversation with one another without intentionally entering into meaningful dialogue with the most significant conversation partner, God. We will enter collectively into the quiet and listen together for God's heart. We will emerge from the silence to hear the words that God has inspired through each of us. We listen, God speaks, then we speak and listen to one another.”
We will be hosted at the beautiful Saint Columba Retreat Center in Memphis. Time will be provided for personal reflection, reading, rest, as well as interaction with fellow leaders. Lodging is provided at Saint Columba, and is included in the retreat cost. Five meals are also included.
Participants should begin dwelling in the text of the Ephesians 2:11-22 daily. Dwell in the text with as many different people as possible before the retreat (spouse, kids, coworkers, church members, etc.). Listen to what the Holy Spirit is trying to teach you through your personal reflection, and the impressions of others you share with. This text will shape a very important session of mutual “listening” during the retreat.
Sessions will be led by special guests, including: Lendy Bartlett, Gerald Taylor, Jackie Halstead, Darren Hagood, Ben Pickett, Doug Foster and David Fleer.
