About this event
Two of Tacoma's great nonprofits are joining forces to present retrospectives on two major chapters in Tacoma's unique history. Tacoma Historical Society (THS) and the Sister Cities Council of Tacoma are presenting two exhibits at the THS museum (406 Tacoma Ave S):
- Timber Town - This exhibit explores Tacoma's wood products industry and its role in the city's development, the mechanization brought into forestry in the 1920s, and the different related industries that resulted from it, such as paper, furniture, musical instruments, even toys.
- Bridging Culture and Hidden Treasures: The History of Tacoma's Sister Cities and Ports - The retrospective reviews the 62-year history of Tacoma's Sister City program and the relationships the city has established around the world.
Join us as we welcome Mayor Victoria Woodards and former Mayor Bill Baarsma as they officially open this joint exhibition.
