Description

This course attempts to provide an introduction to maps to the attendants. The purpose is to show the students how to do maps using Qgis and R. We will cover the major principles of mapping, such as symbols, elements, generalization, projections, colors, and visualization. We will do different types of maps: qualitative, choropleth,
proportional symbol, dot, etc. In the class, we will cover how to use the R packages RgoogleMaps and ggmap to make maps using static maps from Google.


Computer: You can bring your laptop or use one of the RRI provided laptops.
Data and software to download will be available online.
