Event description

Description

We'll spend the week exploring the Merrimack River using the museum’s fleet of traditional Banks dories and our ten-oared surf dory Provident. Water safety and rowing instructions will be covered on Day One; all rowers will wear USCG-approved life vests. Once competently rowing the boats, we will cast off to explore the river and its surounds. Depending on tide and current, we'll have the option of rowing to Maudslay State Park, Indian River, High Rock, or even the river islands- Deer, Eagle, Ram and Carr Islands. These 'sanctuary islands' have very limited access; we are privileged to be permitted to help monitor native flora and fauna. If conditions are favorable, we may row up the Pow wow River for ice cream!

This weeklong event is for ages 10 and up. Students are asked to bring a snack, sunscreen, a water bottle and bug repellent (if you use it) with them each day. **Please note: There is a morning session, Building Your Own Pond Yacht!, from 9am-noon. If your child attends both, please pack a lunch, and we'll all eat together here at the Boat Shop so you don't have to return between sessions! Saturday is the date of the Mighty Merrimack Regatta for the Pond Yacht class; there is no second session for the rowing group on Saturday.

*A miminum of 4 students is required to run this class. Should there be fewer than four students Lowell's Boat Shop reserves the right to cancel the class at any time for a full refund.
