Event description

Description

Experience a traditional American Thanksgiving at the Eileen Rockefeller House, an extension of North Country School.

An ideal option for high school boarders who wish to stay in the eastern U.S. over the holidays, this program will immerse students in life on an Adirondack farm as they help our experienced educators prepare a traditional Thanksgiving feast. Participants will share rooms and meals at the Eileen Rockefeller House (“RockE”), complete with mountain views over private Round Lake, a modern kitchen, and direct access to North Country School’s working farm and forest. They will learn how to care for sheep, goats, horses, and chickens and cook from scratch using fresh garden squashes, potatoes, herbs and more.

This will be a time to make new friends and deepen both outdoor and cultural skills. Round Lake Campus includes 6 km of ski and hiking trails, sledding hills, its own downhill ski slopes, easy access to High Peaks Wilderness hiking trails, and more. Close proximity to Whiteface Mountain and Mt. Van Hoevenberg XC ski center open up further opportunities for downhill or cross-country skiing, or even trying out skeleton or luge. Additionally, we are just 7 miles from the village of Lake Placid, which offers a range of shopping and dining options.

Program activities include:

  • Downhill skiing at Whiteface

  • Shopping and exploring in Lake Placid

  • Going bowling

  • Caring for animals on the farm

  • Enjoying a night at a local restaurant

  • Cross-country skiing at Mt. Van Hoevenburg

  • Helping to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal

  • Plus plenty of down time to relax, chat with friends, and explore campus
