Saturday, April 28, 2018 @ 7:30pm
(7:00pm Happy Hour featuring Kai Christiansen, noted musicologist and presenter specializing in classical chamber music)

ROUGE

Experience the harp like you’ve never heard it before.

Chamber Music Silicon Valley is thrilled to present to you world-renowned harpist Bridget Kibbey, praised by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution as the “Yo-Yo Ma of the harp.” And that’s just the beginning of her critical acclaim (she’s been enthusiastically commended by The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Post, to name just a few). Bridget brings to her craft a one-of-a-kind vision for reinvigorating the role of the harp in modern musical performance, paired with the talent to bring this vision to fruition. Her daring arrangements bend and break the norms of classical music performance, leaving her audience wondering why the norms ever existed in the first place.

From transforming a piece originally composed for the lofty acoustics of an organ into a spellbindingly sublime work that leaves listeners recalculating their previously-held notions - no matter how optimistic - of the harp’s potential (check it out here), to putting a refreshingly unorthodox spin on the classics, Bridget is a force of nature both in her industry and on the stage.

On Saturday, April 28 at 7:30pm, Bridget will be featured in a showcase of French Chamber Music, outlined below, that you won’t want to miss. Set amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the Triton Museum of Art, this performance will enchant your senses and delight your soul.

Featured works:

Debussy: Danse Sacre et Profane
Saint-Saens: Fantaisie for Violin and Harp
Debussy: Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp
Ravel: Introduction and Allegro

Praise for Bridget:

“Kibbey made it seem as though her instrument had been waiting all its life to explode with the gorgeous colors and energetic figures she was getting from it.”

- Paul Griffiths, The New York Times

“Like a Yo-Yo Ma of the harp…Within a few seconds Kibbey has given the harp an outsized personality and ethereal purity, like a piano set free of its hammers and heavy case.”

- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

"Harpist Bridget Kibbey spearheaded a graceful, dynamic account of Debussy's "Danse sacrée et danse profane," marked by forceful rhythms and a robust tonal presence."

- Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Gate

“Ms. Kibbey, a performer who seems to revel in the sheer physicality required to coax a vast range of exacting expression from her stately instrument, was a delight to watch and to hear...And Ms. Kibbey was a marvel once more, her dramatic sweeps and robust lines repeatedly cause for shivers...”

- Steve Smith, The New York Times

"...the marvelous harpist Bridget Kibbey... seemed to be gathering up baskets of opulent sound, bundles of arpeggios, floating them out into the concert hall."

- Richard Scheinin, San Jose Mercury News
