ROSL ARTS: Dev and Sam - Indian Classical Music
Fri, June 30, 2017, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM BST
Debapriya and Samanwaya (Dev & Sam) with Madhurjya (Madhu)
Join us for a magical and entrancing evening of Indian classical music as we continue our celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence, as well as 2017 being the UK-india year of culture.
Debapriya & Samanwaya are two of India’s finest classical musicians. Learning with the celebrated Maestros of India, their unique and rare combination of Vocal and Sitar allows music lovers to admire them for their understanding and knowledge, musical subtlety and broadness, technical richness and aesthetic wisdom.
The duo has performed all over the world, major festivals including WOMAD UK, High Peace Festival Germany , Parramasala Australia and Mananan Isle of Man.
Joined by special guest, tabla player Madhurjya Ranjan Barthakur, the group improvise, complementing each other’s style and presentation. They experiment with new approaches whilst preserving the tradition of ‘Ragas and Talas’. This will be a very moving & beautiful performance…and a rare chance to see two of India’s finest classical musicians!
“One could hear the departing audience waxing lyrical about their subtlety and their gift for keeping listeners enthralled….the night opened with raga Marwa whose very long introduction (alap), forty-five heavenly minutes of leisurely delicacy, shone like a sparkling jewel in sound – not so much in the Théâtre des Abbesses as really out of this world.
