Event description

Description

Mission:

Roots & Raíces Festival provides a platform primarily for immigrants and for allies to be represented in the arts in Baltimore City by giving them agency to perform, promote, and celebrate their artistic contributions to the United States. We also aim to use this platform in collaboration with CASA to inform and encourage participants to take action in advocating for immigrant rights.

Vision:

Our vision is to change the narrative of how immigrants are perceived in the United States in order to generate equitable social change for all immigrants.

The venue consists of three large music and art spaces and 4 stages to choose from. Entrance will be from N. Howard St. and W. 20th St.

We will be having a range of events throughout the day long festival:

•El Mercado:
-Immigrant/ descendant of immigrant vendors from around Baltimore selling art, crafts, goods, and services.
-Immigrant rights organizations and several other community organizations that represent different cultural groups.
-Artesanas Mexicanas will be conducting art workshops to learn about how to make piñatas, papel picado, flores de totomoxtle, and more!
-Food trucks from various regions and cultures

•Celia Cruz (Outdoor) Stage:
-Folkloric Dance Performances
-Local DJ sets
-Headliners (Will be released soon. Watch out!)

•Dolores Huerta (Indoor) Stage:
-Panel Discussion: Guest speaker Mexican rights activist and teacher Antonio Castro
-Slam Poetry session
-Mini-Fashion Show hosted by Diana Eusebio
-Local DJ sets
-Headliners

Stages are named after two influential Latinas: immigrant rights activist Dolores Huerta who has been influential in the U.S. labor and civil rights movements & Celia Cruz the revolutionary Queen of Salsa.
