Event description

Description

Romancing the Gibbet is a collaboration between the poet, Ralph Hoyte and the historian, Steve Poole. We have created four audio trails close to sites of extraordinary public punishment in Georgian England; executions for murder conducted at the scene of the crime and/or hanging felons in chains.

This is one of four related events for Being Human where we’ll explain the historical background, perform some of the spoken-word poetic responses and introduce the technologies we used to make the works.

By downloading an app to your phone/tablet, you can explore the landscape of the full Lay of the Two Deadly Brothers trail where the original events unfolded in 1741 while listening to our unique spoken-word meditation.

At our event, an additional sample trail will be relocated in and around the venue. To try it out, please download the app from satsymph.co.uk beforehand and come with a smartphone and headphones.

Warning: some strong language and themes of murder and public execution
