Playing For Kicks is back! We're happy to announce that we'll be hosting our 5 aside tournament again this year on Saturday June 4th 2022
About this event
Back in 2016 we produced our first Playing For Kicks tournament in an attempt to create an event after our own hearts: competitive, inclusive, social and with good music. We’ve learnt a lot over the years, and continue to educate and be educated with the changing times in order to set an example and inspire the world of football.
Since our last tournament in 2019, we have seen a huge rise in new teams being formed alongside a vast amount of individual enthusiasts. The pandemic has sparked an interest in outdoor activity, especially women’s team sports yet there is still a huge lack of accessibility within grassroots football.
Playing for Kicks aims to provide the much needed space and platform to celebrate the women's grassroots community in all its forms. Catering for all ages, playing abilities, gender identity & expression, race, ethnicity & religion.
This year is going to be special for many reasons – we get to bring you all together after 2 long years, we've got space for more beginners teams to participate and for the first time we'll have a full Junior tournament.
The tournament is being run in partnership with the adidas football collective and is supported by our friends The Goalposts League.
We cannot WAIT to finally bring the UKs women, trans and non-binary grassroots teams and their supporters together for a full day of football, music and friendship. So mark your calendar and come on down to Trent Park on June 4th 2022.
Each year we choose a charity organisation to support. This year we will be supporting Comfort Angels - A women's refugee and asylum seeking football team based in Toxteth, Liverpool. Their team will also compete in the tournament. We hope you all will join us in giving them a warm welcome.
As ever, we're committed to creating an inclusive tournament environment, and will be asking everyone to adhere to our code of conduct. If you have accessibility needs, or questions or concerns – please get in touch on playingforkicks@gmail.com
