Roman London foreshore walk

About this event

Clayground is currently working with the Friends of the Highgate Roman kiln on a project to restore ancient ceramic workings and create an education centre in Highgate Wood, North London.

To learn more about the development of Roman London, we are leading a walk with specialist Thames archaeologist, Mike Webber, to illuminate important Roman sites beside the river and to discover ceramic traces of Roman life on the foreshore. Some of these fragments may well have been fired in the Highgate kilns.

The walk will start near Cannon Street station, pointing out notable sites nearby, before going down onto the foreshore to look for fragments of Roman pottery. The walk starts at 12.00pm and finishes at 14.30pm. More directions will be sent on booking.

The fee for this specialist walk is £25.00 per adult. There are 2 discounted child places per walk at £15.00 for ages 8-17. Please note minimum age is 8. These discounted places are limited to 2 as we need to cover the costs of licences and insurance. Please use the promo code CHILD if you wish to book a discounted place.

NB Please be aware the foreshore can be dangerous. It is not suitable for anyone who experiences difficulty using steps or walking on uneven ground.

Dogs are not allowed on these walks.

Clayground is licensed for group walks by the Port of London Authority.
