What is PiYo?

PiYo originally got it's name from Pilates and Yoga. However, PiYo isn’t like standard Pilates or Yoga classes that make you hold poses for a long time or lead you through lots of small repetitive core movements. PiYo is upbeat and fun, and introduces you to dynamic, flowing sequences that can be modified for all levels.

About the Instructor

Julie MacPherson has been teaching PiYo since 2014 at the Rochester Athletic Club (RAC for Women). She also enjoys hosting PiYo classes throughout the Rochester community in unique and interesting locations. Past locations have included Cobbs Hill, Ontario Beach Park, Lollypop Farm, and the George Eastman House Gardens. Julie loves yoga and is currently working towards her 200 hr RYT. If you had to summarize her style, it's upbeat and fun, but will also push you to find your inner strength.

About the Sea Lions

Seneca Park Zoo is home to four California sea lions; Lily, Bob, Daley, and Mary Lou. Lily arrived in 2011 in need of a home under human care after suffering an injury to her right flipper. Lily’s son Bob was born in 2017 and is the Zoo’s only male sea lion. Because sea lions are social animals often found swimming and resting together, Mary Lou and Daley joined Lily and Bob in November of 2017 from SeaWorld Orlando. The four marine mammals act as ambassadors for their species, educating and inspiring guests to care about marine ecosystems.

What time does the front entrance open?

The front gate will open for class participants only at 8:30 am. Please plan to arrive at the Rocky Coasts Gallery by 8:45 am (a 10 minute walk from the front gate) to ensure that you are ready for class at 9:00 am.

What is the location for class?

Class is located at Seneca Park Zoo, in the Rocky Coasts Gallery.

What should I bring?

Please bring your mat, water, and good energy.

Is this class weather dependent?

Nope! Class is located inside the Rocky Coasts Gallery and will be held rain or shine.
