Event Information
Description
The National Capital Area Chapter (NCAC) of the West Virginia University Alumni Association and Tortoise & Hare Bar and Grille are teaming up to raise money for the American Cancer Society and local charities, such as Rally for Ryan “We Got This”, on Saturday, June 4, 2011 for the annual Rock-the-Lot—A Benefit Concert in Arlington, VA.
The American Cancer Society: In 2010 there was an estimated 1,529,560 new cancer diagnoses and approximately 569,490 Americans died of the disease, more than 1,500 people a day. The National Institutes of Health estimated overall costs of cancer in 2010 at $263.8 billion: $102.8 billion for direct medical costs (total of all health expenditures). The proceeds received will support the many education programs and patient services for the American Cancer Society locally as well as national cancer research.
Rally for Ryan “We Got This”: Ryan Diviney is a WVU student and former Broad Run High School standout athlete who was severely beaten in November 2009 in Morgantown.
