Rock for the Run, featuring Johannna Warren, w/The Lords of Liechtenstein
Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM (EST)
Join us at Common Ground in Hastings for our annual holiday "Rock for the Run" to benefit Midnight Run, the Dobbs Ferry organization that provides dignity and connection to our homeless brothers and sisters on the streets of New York. This year, our featured artist is Johanna Warren (Hastings High '07).
Johanna has had a busy 2013: she's been on the road as a singer with Iron & Wine, recorded with Natalie Merchant and Elvis Perkins, and has just self-released her debut solo record, "Fates," a collection of nine songs recorded over the course of three days in a haunted attic in upstate New York. For the last six years Warren has fronted the band Sticklips, an experimental project drawing on the eclectic influences of its shifting personnel. The 24-year-old songwriter's debut solo album is stripped to the bone yet full and spacious, entirely acoustic yet lush with eery ambience. Influenced heavily by the early recordings of Elliott Smith, Warren strove to create an intimate sonic universe with very sparse arrangements, relying solely on the strength of her songwriting.
Joining the bill will be New York City-based acoustic duo The Lords of Liechtenstein, who have brought their unique blend of folk music to clubs and coffeehouses all over the East Coast of the United States. The Lords have also released three CDs in the last three years, including a concept album on African food crises - "Economics of an Empty Stomach" (2011) - and most recently , a quirky, multi-faceted LP entitled "Siberia" (2012). In addition, The Lords have recently begun recording a new full-length record which is scheduled for release in 2014.
But that's not all...Our evening opens at 6:30 with sets from a variety of teen artists and bands. (Sorry our line-up is full!) So don't miss this annual holiday good time for a great cause!
