Were you recently asked to chair a committee and have no idea where to start? Did you attend an HOA, PTA, or organization meeting and had no idea what went on? Are you looking to learn something new in a supportive environment?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, this workshop is for you! Please join the Virginia State Association of Parliamentarians and the Northern Virginia Marching and Gavel Society Unit as they host a Robert's Rules Open House!
In this supportive environment, you will learn the basics of parliamentary procedure, mapped to the competencies of the National Association of Parliamentarians' Membership Exam. Additionally, there will be time for a question-and-answer session where attendees can ask the instructors for advice regarding a situation that occurred in their group.

- 09:30am-10:00am: Doors Open. Registration and Networking
- 10:00am-10:50am: Introductions, Agendas, How to Handle a Motion
- 10:50am-11:00am: 10 Minute Break
- 11:00am-11:40am: Debate and Amendments
- 11:40am-12:10pm: Postponing; Enforcing and Suspending Rules
- 12:10pm-12:30pm: Voting and Conclusion
- 12:30pm-01:00pm: Open Forum; Audience Q&A with Professional Registered Parliamentarians
Confirmed Instructors
Donald Garrett, PRP is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian based in Tysons Corner. He is currently serving as the Second Vice President of the Virginia State Association of Parliamentarians, and provides parliamentary consulting to clients across the DC metropolitan area.
Steven Berke, RP, is a Registered Parliamentarian based in Burke, Virginia. He is a member of the Northern Virginia Marching and Gavel Society, and serves as the Secretary of the Virginia Alpha Unit of Registered Parliamentarians.
