ABOUT MHCF

The Metro Historical Commission Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit friends group which assists the MHC in its efforts to identify, protect, study and interpret the rich history of Nashville.

Each year, we hold an annual fundraiser to raise money for projects such as Nashville Sites, grave restoration, and marker placement. Our 2021 fundraiser will be at Fisk University, and we're celebrating the amazing history and culture of this iconic Nashville school.

ABOUT FISK

Founded in 1866 by John Ogden, the Reverend Erastus Milo Cravath, and the Reverend Edward P. Smith, Fisk was created for the sole purpose of educating newly freedmen after the Civil War. The school is named for Clinton B. Fisk, a Union general and assistant commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau of Tennessee. It is unique in that it is the oldest institution of higher learning in Nashville, and the iconic Jubilee Hall is a treasured part of Nashville's landscape.

One of Fisk's greatest legacies is the Jubilee Singers, formed in 1871 to tour and raise money for the school. We are so excited to announce that the 2021-2022 Jubilee Singers will be performing at this fundraiser.
