Event description

Description

This conference is designed for providers and front line workers who deal with refugees and Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients in the mental health setting. Target participants include behavioral health providers, front desk clerks, case workers, intake officers, police officers, first responders, etc. There are 12 training sessions that cover interpreting, trauma, and therapy which are presented through lectures, workshops, focus groups, and case demonstrations. It presents practical approaches to build skills and empower the front line workers to become effective and competent in doing their jobs. It offers mental health providers the opportunity to train and build skills in the use of interpreting services and become confident to conduct counseling therapy sessions with refugees and LEP clients. The highlight of this conference includes training and information on language access as a key to effective communication between a provider and a client, or between two or more individuals who do not speak the same language and who came from different cultures. Participation to this training conference is highly encouraged to prevent costly errors due to inadequate information, misinformation, miscommunication, or simply lack of awareness.
