Businesses and residents are invited to take part in a flagship COP 26 event as the Carbon Battle Bus visits Hull city centre.

The battle bus, which is travelling the whole of the UK as part of Planet Mark’s Zero Carbon Tour, is being brought to the region by the HEY LEP.

This whole day event, taking place on Monday 18 October at Hull City Hall's The Mortimer Suite, will explore many of the topical and practical aspects of net-zero, decarbonisation and sustainability.

The event will have limited in-person tickets available but will also be streamed online for those who wish to attend remotely. For online tickets to the event please click here.

The first event of the day will be held by Marketing Humber, who are bringing its opening Waterline Summit 2021 event ‘A Question of Carbon’, to the Hall.

The Waterline event will see a panel of special guests, featuring nationally known experts, discuss how the Humber region’s unique opportunities for environmental change and improvement can have a global influence. You can book tickets for the Waterline section of the event by clicking here.

Planet Mark, a sustainability certification for businesses, real estate and products, will then hold events across the day on the main stage, while HEY LEP will also be holding break-out sessions on a number of related subjects, such as how SMEs can become more sustainable and how partnering with nature groups can ensure property developments can be environmentally friendly.

Businesses from across the region will also showcase how they have made or are planning to make important changes to their businesses to embrace climate change and become more sustainable.

There will also be space at the event for networking and to find out more about the different organisations across the region, who can support businesses with their net zero targets.

Breakout 1 – “HEY Business” 11am – 12pm

Facilitated by the HEY Business Growth Hub, this session will hear from a range of business support schemes and organisations that can help businesses to decarbonise and implement sustainable, clean growth activities. With support primarily targeted at SMEs (small and medium sized businesses), each scheme will talk about how they can help businesses to reduce costs and access new markets via low carbon activity and clean growth. Delegates will take away from this session advice and guidance on how business costs can be cut alongside carbon emissions.

Delegates will hear from each support scheme before having the opportunity to ask questions as part of a Q&A session.

Breakout 2 – “HEY Community” 1.30pm – 2.30pm

Facilitated by the Hull & East Yorkshire Local Nature Partnership, this breakout session will explore how community groups and natural-world organisation are playing their part in tackling the climate crisis through a range of projects and initiatives.

Delegates will hear from a number of schemes before having the opportunity to ask questions as part of a Q&A session.

Organisations confirmed include:

- Northern Forest and the HEY Woods project on the role of tree planting and afforestation in climate change adaption and mitigation

- National Farmers Union & a regional farm on how the agricultural sector is adapting to climate change

- Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on the intertidal and marine projects relevant to climate change issues such as saltmarsh, seagrass, and oysters

Breakout 3 – “HEY Clean Growth” 3pm – 4pm

Facilitated by the HEY LEP, this breakout session will hear from low carbon and clean growth trailblazers from the HEY business community. Delegates will hear how fellow regional businesses have embedded net zero principles and clean growth approaches throughout their business operations and how they are now seeing dividends as a result. Delegates will take away from this session real life examples of low carbon activity that they can apply to their own businesses, and how this can give then a competitive advantage to access new markets and win more customers.

Delegates will hear form each business taking part in the breakout before having the opportunity to ask questions as part of a Q&A session.
