Description

Leadership Academy is a one-day intensive training event for chapter and chorus leaders of all types. Whether you've been in a leadership role in a choral organization for years, you're brand new to it, or you're anticipating a future role, we have something for you. Come share in an exchange of ideas with leaders from other organizations. Hear from experienced instructors. Establish new connections that can help you and your chorus.

Courses will be categorized into four tracks, and you can choose which courses (from any track) to attend based on your own experience and the needs of your group:

  • Governance: Topics geared toward people in the roles of President, Executive Director, Executive Vice President, Immediate Past President, Secretary, and Treasurer
  • Music: For musical leadership roles such as Director, Associate or Assistant Director, VP of Music & Performance, Section Leader, Music Librarian, Music Committee Member
  • Internal Operations: Focused on topics of interest to Membership, Chapter Development, Program and Activities
  • External Operations: Responsibilities such as Chorus Manager, Marketing, Public Relations, Community Outreach, Youth Outreach, Web Development, Social Media

Our outstanding faculty includes:

  • Jim Clark - Lead of 2010 International Champion quartet, Storm Front, Director of the America the Beautiful Chorus, Western Regional Director of Harmony Foundation International
  • Kevin Pape - Past president of the Rocky Mountain District, member of the BHS Operations Team and Society Events Strategic Ops Team
  • Tony Pranaitis - Secretary of the Rocky Mountain District, Past president of the RMD, past district VP of Membership & Outreach, former member of the Society Membership Committee
  • Tyler Wigginton - RMD VP of Director Development, Director of the Boulder Timberliners, Bass of International Semifinalist quartet, Maelstrom, Bass of first-ever RMD mixed quartet champion, X&Y

  • Show Production & Convention Hosting 101 (Pape)
  • The Triumvirate: Secretaries, Treasurers, and Presidents (Pape)
  • Vision and Legacy of the CEO and Board Members (Pape)

The schedule for Leadership Academy will be as follows:

  • Friday PM - Introductory Dinner (optional, location TBA) - Meet faculty and attendees, ask questions, help guide the direction of discussion for the following day
  • 8:30-9:00 - Registration, Juice & Muffins
  • 9:00-9:25 - Opening General Session
  • 9:30-10:55 - Class Session 1
  • 11:00-11:55 - Class Session 2
  • 12:00-12:25 - Lunch (Included. You will receive an email invitation to create a customized order from Jimmy Johns)
  • 12:30-1:55 - Class Session 3
  • 2:00-2:25 - General Session
  • 2:30-3:25 - Class Session 4
  • 3:30-4:55 - Class Session 5
  • 5:00-5:30 - Closing General Session



Tuition is $55 each for the first four representatives from your chapter or organization and includes lunch, snacks, and general session music. Additional attendees from your chapter are just $10 each.

CARA winners are awarded scholarships to cover the tuition for the first 4 attendees. If your chorus is a CARA winner, please enter all your attendees under "Additional Attendees".
