St. Croix 101 at Hudson Area Riverfest July 15 and 16
Family kayak paddling from Hudson Lakefront Park to YMCA Camp St. Croix and St. Croix County Troy Beach Park either of two different times, Monday, July 15 starting at 10:00 am or Tuesday, July 16 at 4:00. A power boat from St. Croix Marina will shadow the paddlers.
The YMCA Camp’s newly-restored voyageur canoe will transport 8 passengers at $10 each and two staff dressed in period costume. 20 kayaks can be rented at the subsidized price of $10. Anyone may paddle or row along with their own non-motorized craft for free. Additional kayak rentals are available at the reduced price of $25 by calling Kinni Creek Lodge & Outfitters, River Falls, WI (715) 425-7378. Fees will be collected and releases signed at Lakefront Park before launch.
Shuttle service will be provided only for the passengers in the voyageur canoe, the 20 subsidized kayaks and for those who rent from Kinni Creek. Others are encouraged to rideshare since parking is limited at Troy Beach County Park and near Lakefront Park.
On each of the two days, the paddle trips will be followed by a grilled lunch/supper, suggested donation of $3. The Army Corps of Engineers will showcase underwater mussels. The St. Croix County Historical Society will feature early logging and railroading. The Carpenter Nature Center will show one of its large birds and talk about life above water. In case of weather cancellation on Monday, the presentations will be given at the St. Croix Marina. On Tuesday, at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
