River Song is a Los Angeles-based quintet devoted to the performance of original compositions and arrangements that seamlessly blend jazz and improvised music with western classical chamber and American folk music.
Their performances have been described as "sparse and beautiful… mesmerizing and strewn with hauntingly gorgeous vocals." (Jhanne Jasmine, Camellia Lounge, Portland, OR) and "… a joyous blending of memorable compositions, artful orchestration, subtle improvisation, and fresh creative energy." (Art Lande, Grammy-nominated Pianist).
River Song originally formed at The California Institute of the Arts in the Spring of 2011 and has since performed extensively throughout Los Angeles and on the West Coast. Their flexible and unique sound has lead to performances at a wide range of venues including concert halls, jazz clubs, and at schools and universities.
An ensemble comprised of composers, River Song includes Lauren Baba (Viola, Violin), Alina Roitstein (Voice), Andrew Rowan (Cornet), Harrison Kirk (Trombone), and Gregory Uhlmann (Guitar)
Ari Chersky Quartet
Ari Chersky is a Guitarist/Composer from Oakland, CA. As a youth he spent the majority of his time playing guitar and enjoying other formative musical happenings.
Following the formula, he relocated to Brooklyn, NY to further pursue these interests. After some very eventful years (that were musically enlightening if nothing else), he learned the true measure of success and returned home to the Bay Area.
He leads an instrumental trio which features Ross Gallagher on bass and Craig Weinrib on drums. This group plays his original music, blending Jazz and free improvisation with the American Blues and Folk Traditions.
He also plays in a variety of other creative music groups, which he finds to be pleasurable and rewarding.
His debut album entitled Scenes from the Zephyr is available on Hundred Pockets Records.
