Event description

Description

For decades, the banks of the Merrimack River in Lawrence, MA have hosted one of the largest winter crow roosts in New England. Approximately 15,000 crows begin to form a winter roost along the Merrimack in October and continue through April.

Seeing thousands of crows converge around the roosting location at sunset is an amazing natural phenomenon! Please join us at Essex Art Center on February 10 for a talk and Q&A with Dana Duxbury-Fox and Bob Fox of North Andover, veteran birders and crow-watchers, followed by a trip to viewing areas near the crow roost to watch the sunset "crow show". Please note: you must provide your own transportation to the viewing area; directions will be provided. Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather!

This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED via Eventbrite.

Event schedule:

2 p.m.: Essex Art Center opens; guests may explore EAC's galleries, which are "Celebrating the Winter Crow Roost" from January 11 through March 15 by featuring crow-related art, photographs, videos and more.

3 p.m.: Talk followed by Q&A with Dana Duxbury-Fox and Bob Fox of North Andover, MA, veteran birders and crow watchers.

~ 4:00 p.m.: Depart from Essex Art Center to crow viewing areas (guest must provide their own transportation; directions will be provided. Viewing areas may be within walking distance of EAC, but are of course determined by the crows and therefore subject to change!)

~ 4:15 p.m.: Arrive at crow viewing area

~ 5:15 - 5:30 p.m.: Conclusion (sunset is at 5:09 p.m.)
