Dear RiSC Students, Families and Teachers,
Please join the National Wildlife Federation's Resilient Schools Consortium (RiSC) program's virtual classroom with American Littoral Society educators Don Riepe, Alexandra Kanonik and Nicole Haines - Tuesday, April 28th, 3:30pm to 4:30pm - to learn about how dunes, intact wetlands, and other forms of nature-based infrastructure, can protect cities from coastal storms.
PLEASE RSVP BY MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2020
On this day, students will learn about the natural and artificial approaches that people living around Jamaica Bay are implementing right now to create coastal buffers to protect peoples' lives and homes, and increase coastal resilience. Through pictures, Don and Alexandra will discuss the impacts of Superstorm Sandy before the idea of green infrastructure became considered as a resilience strategy. We will also have a special virtual dune grass planting demo with American Littoral Society Educational Director Nicole Haines. A Q & A with Don, Alexandra and Nicole will follow the presentation.
This virtual classroom lesson will take place over Zoom and will be recorded.
