About this event

Ring Mountain is home to the rare and endemic Tiburon Mariposa Lily and many other botanic jewels that set botanists' hearts a-flutter. We'll also see some unusual geological features and learn why geologists exclaim "Oh schist!" at the very mention of Ring Mountain.

Where to Meet

We will assemble at the gate for the Phyllis Ellman Trail off Paradise Drive.

From Highway 101 in Corte Madera, take the exit for Tamalpais Dr east. Go straight onto San Clemente, which merges into Paradise Dr after 0.4 miles. Follow Paradise Dr approximately 1 mile (go past Westward Dr). The gate is on the right.

Notes

There are no restrooms at the trailhead. As you drive down Paradise Drive, look for the athletic field on the left and stop there for a bathroom break pre-hike.

Bring water and lunch. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. Bring hiking poles if you normally use them. If you have questions about this outing, please email Ken Lavin at klavin@greenbelt.org or phone (415) 543-6771 x321.

About the Outing Leader

Cathy Petrick is a former park ranger from Yellowstone National Park and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area who loves wildflowers, dogs, and baking (with berries, stone fruit, and lemons). She is currently a high school English teacher at The Marin School where she leads mini field-trips to discover wildflowers and then asks students to describe a sun-cup, say, with a minimum of five metaphors. She lives in Corte Madera with exciting hiking opportunities on Ring Mountain, Baltimore Canyon, and Mount Tam. She is an identical triplet. She is married with two grown children.
