Description

Hike Rating: Easy; 1.9 miles (wheelchair accessible on paved portion)

Guides: Marilynne & John Keyser (mtkeyser@gmail.com; 541-923-0558)

Rimrock Springs Natural Area has a 1.9 mile lightly-trafficked out and back trail located near Madras that features beautiful wild flowers and water birds and is good for all skill levels. The first half-mile of the trail is paved and wheelchair accessible. This hike is open to anyone; however, families with small children and folks with mobility issues will find the half-mile portion a perfect fit. We will have two hike leaders, so those who are interested will be able to extend the hike beyond the paved section.

Bring your Guide to Common Native Plants of the Deschutes Canyon Area. Guide books will be available for purchase before the hike ($10/FANs members; or S12/non-members, payable with cash or check).

We will meet at the Crooked River Fire Station at 8:00 a.m. to arrange carpools. It takes about 35 minutes to drive to Rimrock Springs. If you want to drive yourself, please be at the trailhead ready to start the hike at 8:45 a.m.

Directions: The fastest route is to turn east off Hwy 97 on NE Smith Rock Road in Terrebonne. Continue past Smith Rock State Park and turn north on NW Lone Pine Road until it merges into Highway 26. Turn left, and continue north on Highway 26. Look for the the sign to Rimrock Springs Natural Area on the right after you pass SE Ramms Road coming in from the left.

Group size is limited to 10 people, and dogs are not allowed on this hike. If you sign up and later need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible so that people on the wait list can be invited to join this hike. Thank you!

The focus area of FANs includes many special places such as Steelhead Falls, Alder Springs, the Peninsula, Otter Bench and Scout Camp.
