RIFLE SHOOTING MERIT BADGE RIFLE RANGE
As a follow up to the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge requirements, we will be going to the FOP range on Saturday, May 4 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. We will meet at the church parking lot prior to 10:15 AM. This is open to all scouts which attended the written portion of the shooting Merit Badge as safety was covered and will be covered again at the range. We will try to line up a call pool for this if needed as the range is located at Exit 45 from 77. We will be using .22 rifles on up to three ranges with 5 scouts maximum on each. The ammunition for this event was donated to us by Mr. Robert Childs so a big thank you to him for this. I will be supplying both targets and ear protection / eye protection but if you have your own, please feel free to bring it. In addition, sun glasses should be good for eye protection over shooting glasses if you have them.
This will require dry weather so should it rain, I will send out a rain cancelation and we can reschedule later in the month. For actual MB requirements we will cover, please see below:
Shooting requirements below:
1) Using a .22 caliber rim fire rifle and shooting from a bench rest or supported prone position at 50 feet, fire five groups (three shots per group) that can be covered by a quarter. Using these targets, explain how to adjust sights to zero.
2) Adjust sights to center the group on the target and fire five groups (five shots per group). According to the target used, each shot in the group must meet the following minimum score: (1) A-32 targets - 9; (2) A-17 or TQ-1 targets - 7; (3) A-36 targets – 5
* Note: It is not always practical to adjust the sights (i.e. when using a borrowed fixed-sight rifle). For requirement 2, you may demonstrate your ability to use the shooting fundamentals by shooting five shot groups (five shots per group) in which all shots can be covered by or touch a quarter and then explain how to adjust the sights to zero the rifle.
