Ride the rail: Yarraman to Caulfield Big Bike Ride
Event Information
Description
You are invited to join us for the opening of Melbourne’s newest rail trail, a brand new shared path that starts at Yarraman Station.
We will be following this brand new and improved path that has you away from cars and only crossing roads rather than being on them, all the way to Caulfield. We want all types of riders to join us; bring your kids, bring your bikes of all types.
This is a brand-new route that could soon be a new commute for many.
The path is around 17km long and goes under and around the elevated rail alongside new parkland. It has plenty to see, but if you want to ride it first, you have to come along.
Before the ride begins, we will hear from one or two guest speakers, including a safety talk. You must be there in time to hear that important information - stragglers will unfortunatley not be able to join.
At the end of the ride, we will all meet and have access to toilets and a place to have a rest and a chat. From Caulfield you can choose your way home.
Your options will include catching a train from Caulfield to Yarraman, or heading to Darling Station (1.7 km away) for a train into the city.
Please be aware this bike event will coincide with some important rail upgrade works between Caulfield and the city, meaning buses will be replace all trains from the CBD to Caulfield.
The Boyd Trail (which branches off from Hughesdale) also provides you with a 1km almost entirely off road link to either East Malvern Station or the Scotchman's Creek Trail.
We'll provide more detailed info closer to the time about getting to and from the ride.
This event is brought to you by the Australian Cycle Alliance and the good people at LXRA (Level Crossing Removal Authority).
We have to limit the number of riders to 200 adults, so kids not included in the numbers.
Please keep an eye on this page for updated information about train station closures and bus replacement services closer to the date for ways to get you to the start.
