What is 'femicide'?
Femicide is the systematic killing of women and girls because they are female. The various forms of femicide include but is not limited to sex trafficking, domestic violence, sexual violence, child brides, honor killings and gender preferences over females.
In the United States, women are 9 times more likely to be killed by an intimate partner, ex-partner than a stranger and has the highest rate of domestic violence homicides than any other industrialized nation. In Canada and the US, there is a growing rate of young women being abducted, sexually violated and mutilated, murdered and disposed of in abondened areas. This form of femicide is similar to the crimes done against women and girls in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico for the last 30 years.
