Event Details

Join us for this panel discussion on recent trends in the New York region construction labor market.  Areas of discussion will include key drivers moving the recent shifts in manpower, quality and training issues, and insurance coverage.  Each project has unique needs, and as such, each trade within the project requires a specific evaluation into best strategies for either union or open shop labor forces, and overall collaboration.

Professor Patricia Lancaster - Clinical Professor at the New York University Schack Institute of Real Estate

Patricia Lancaster is a registered Architect and licensed real estate broker with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors.  She is a Professor in the Masters of Real Estate at New York University’s School of Professional Studies.  She has supervised planning, design and construction of over three billion dollars worth of educational, institutional, commercial and residential facilities, and is the former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Buildings.

The BTEA is New York City’s largest contractor trade association.  In 2015, BTEA contractors reported revenues of some $35 billion in every sector of the public and private contractor market.  Mr. Coletti is responsible for government affairs advocacy, public relations, safety training and facilitating communication between trade associations, real estate and public owners, labor and with public officials.

Joe joined Constrution Risk Partners in 2010. In Joe’s tenure, he has lead the company’s formal expansion into New York and has developed into an industry leader in the area of complex construction risk.  Business Insurance named Joe as one of the “Top 40 Under 40 Brokers” in the U.S. in October of 2015.

Prior to CRP, Joe held leadership roles at Zurich North America and Kiewit Construction.

Abby Hamlin is a New York City based real estate developer and civic thinker.  She is the founder and President of Hamlin Ventures, which is one of a handful of successful woman-owned development companies.   Focusing on select, design-driven projects that engage urban issues Hamlin’s projects earn the support of communities, win design awards, and at the same time, deliver stellar returns to their investors.

Prior to forming Hamlin Ventures in 1997, Ms. Hamlin was President of Swig Weiler & Arnow Mgt. Co., Inc. a premiere commercial real estate company that developed, owned and managed major office properties in New York and San Francisco, as well as the Fairmont Hotels.  

Ms. Hamlin currently serves on the boards of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation.  From 2010-2016 Ms. Hamlin was an adjunct professor at Columbia University where she taught graduate courses in real estate development.   Ms. Hamlin holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and a Masters of Urban Planning from Princeton University.
