Event description

Description

Linda Eklund’s consulting practice since the early 1990s has focused on market and business development in New York’s design and construction industry.

Her clients are architects, engineers, and project managers engaged in new construction, renovation, preservation, education, healthcare, housing, maritime, and urban design. Her clients' work serves developers, schools, building owners, cultural institutions, office tenants and multi-family residents.

Ms. Eklund has worked as a writer and producer of news stories, music and film reviews, documentaries, translations, and educational and promotional brochures. Beyond her assignments in market and business development, she functions as a publicist and author of advertising and public relations initiatives.

On staff at New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, she supported marketing programs to integrate commuter rail, subway, and bus systems that were historically fragmented. Her position in the marketing group called for in-depth knowledge of equipment design, scheduling, operations and repair, labor relations, financing, capital planning, real estate, politics, and disparate corporate cultures within the Authority's five subsidiaries.

Assignments in the Pacific Northwest involved not-for-profit and municipal programs that reduced homelessness and delivered services in historic neighborhoods. Her advocacy included the search for concrete actions to bridge the widely divergent interests of developers and local communities. The campaign to design and operate a light-rail transit system for the Portland, Oregon metro area required Ms. Eklund to identify and speak with affected communities. She worked with traditionally opposed interests (the state DOT, the regional transit authority, taxpayers) to find common ground.
