Event description

Description

California State Parks and Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) are excited to announce the new Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (CPSRA) campground ribbon cutting and dedication will be celebrated Thursday, September 20, 2018. This project includes six campsites, trail enhancements, native plantings, and interpretive signage that will better serve California’s diverse population. These improvements were identified in the state recreation area’s 2012 general plan.

The Program Agenda is as follows:

10:30am - 11:00am - Light refreshments and mingling
11:00am - 11:45am - Program and Ribbon Cutting
11:45am - 12:30pm - Food served, mingling, self-guided mini tours

Your attendance at this event will help mark this the first step in a multi-phase plan to enhance CPSRA. Renovations to the site now underway include native habitat planting, construction of an urban campsite, and trail connectivity. California State Parks works with LEJ on maintaining CPSRA. Over the last three years, LEJ and their volunteers have provided critical support in restoring CPSRA with native plants.

The project is supported by a broad coalition of community groups, as well as environmental and civic leaders, including Literacy for Environmental Justice, the San Francisco Parks Alliance, Strategic Growth Council, SF Environment, Donna Plunkett of PracticeNature, and the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission to name a few.

Located on the western shoreline of the San Francisco Bay, Candlestick Point SRA was the first state park unit developed to bring park values into the urban setting. From historic wetlands to landfill to landscaped park, the state recreation area demonstrates major land use changes of the San Francisco Bay. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the bay, the East Bay Hills and San Bruno Mountain as well as relax in the peaceful scenery of the park itself. The trails, group picnic sites and fishing piers at this urban park offer a get-away of open space and outdoor activities.
