RI Paid Sick and Safe Leave Time

On July 1, 2018 most employers will be required to provide paid sick and safe leave to nearly of their employees. Meet representatives of the RI Department of Labor and Training who will present a review of the law and what you need to know.

Join us starting at 7:30AM for a full breakfast. The program will start at 8:00AM and will inlclude a history of paid sick leave legislation and advocacy, a review of the regulations, recommendations and questions, and next steps for employers.

Speakers:

Matthew Weldon - Assistant Director for Administrative Services Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training

Matthew Weldon is the Assistant Director for Administrative Services with the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training. In this capacity, Matt is responsible for the oversight and administration of the department’s policy work, external affairs, government relations, equal opportunity programs and varied aspects of the department’s daily operations. He has been in state service for 18 years and in that time, has worked in each branch of state government. Matt has a BA in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island.

 

Joseph Degnan - Assistant Director for the Workforce Regulation and Safety Division at the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.

Joseph Degnan is the Assistant Director for the Workforce Regulation and Safety Division at the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training. In this capacity, Joe is responsible for trade licensing regulation, Apprenticeship regulation, state labor law enforcement, and state occupational safety inspections. He has been working in that capacity for six years. Prior to that he served for twenty-five years as a Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Joe has a juris doctorate from Suffolk University Law School and a B.S. degree from Providence College
