Event description

Description

For our fall semester 2019 the Salt Lake Community College Student Writing & Reading Center Pedagogical Reading Group will be taking on Romeo García and Damián Baca’s Rhetorics of Elsewhere and Otherwise: Contested Modernities, Decolonial Visions. The book is in the Studies in Writing and Rhetoric series (SWR) produced by CCCC/NCTE: “The discipline of composition and rhetoric stands at a crossroad in its pedagogical, research, and public commitments. Decolonial ruptures in writing and rhetoric studies work to build new horizons, new histories, of local knowledges and meaning-making practices that break from Western hegemonic models of knowledge production. This collection functions as one access point with a constellation of such work, forming an ecology of decolonial shifts informed by strategies for potentially decolonizing language and literacy practices, writing and rhetorical instruction, and research practices and methods.”

Please join us in discussing this important work and its implcations/impact on both teaching and the writing studies. The reading group meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of September, October, and November from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus of Salt Lake Community College in the Academic Administration Building (AAB) 135. A parking code is available upon request from Clint.Gardner@slcc.edu.
