REWIRING AMERICA
Event Information
About this Event
It is possible to solve the climate crisis in our lifetime.
Climate solutions have been struggling to escape a 1970’s efficiency framework that was inherited from the last problem - the oil crises of that era. Climate change is a new problem. You can’t efficiency your way to zero emissions. This problem requires transformation. New detailed analysis that truly integrates supply and demand in our energy system illustrates how a powerful commitment to decarbonization by massive electrification will double the energy productivity of the nation. The American dream can be bigger, healthier and happier than it has ever been while eliminating all of our emissions.
The majority of the solution is with technologies we have today; they just need to be deployed at a far greater scale.
American science will once again rise to the task as the global visionary and innovation engine that it was during the 20th century. We need discoveries that green our supply chains, sequester carbon in our products, grow better food with healthier soils, provide better batteries and guarantee seasonal energy storage. We also need solutions to the difficult-to-solve emission problems such as a new generation of refrigerants, steel without coal, cement without CO2, plastics without nitrous oxides.
REWIRING AMERICA is not a “less” or “efficiency” story, but a story of transformation and abundance.
REWIRING AMERICA is an opportunity to re-establish this country as a global economic leader with transformative technology, advanced manufacturing, and high-productivity agriculture.
REWIRING AMERICA reimagines the climate dialogue:
The environmentalist perspective has been: “If we sacrifice a lot, and try enormously hard, the future will suck a little bit less than it would otherwise.”
The REWIRING AMERICA perspective is: “A defining opportunity to solve the climate crisis, while upgrading American infrastructure, renewing our suburbs, rejuvenating our farms and cities, lowering our energy costs, cleaning our rivers and skies, growing our forests, improving our health, and dramatically strengthening our economy while leading the world to a new abundance.”
