Event description

Description

The Energy Institute Young Professionals Network (EIYPN) was set up as a non-profit network, aiming to provide educational and networking opportunities to young professionals within the energy sector in the North East of Scotland.

Event overview

The oil and gas industry in the North Sea has come through a major transition in the past three years with the significant fall in the price of oil leading to redundancies in many organisations as well as a sharp reduction in investment in drilling and exploration activities. Focus has shifted across the region to maintaining safe operations while trying to produce oil and gas for the lowest possible price. Technology and Big Data are seen as the best prospect of ensuring the region has a future in the low oil price environment where competition for investment will be on a global scale.

Several technological innovations have been identified as having the potential to create value and reduce costs across platforms in the North Sea and globally. Some of the technologies which may have a role to play in this area include:

  • Internet of Things

  • Data Analytics

  • Robotics, Automation and Artifical Intelligence

  • Block chain

Presentation and discussion themes will cover the impact of technology and data on the North Sea and how changes in technology will shape the future of the industry and how we can use the increasing volume of data available to the industry's advantage.
