The roundtable will focus on the 2011 Arab Spring Revolts in North Africa and the subsequent political transitions. Specific issues to be addressed will be the role of the military and the police force in transitions, the sequencing of elections and constitution-writing, and the important role of youth. The discussion will include highlights from the newly published book Revolution, Revolt, and Reform in North Africa: The Arab Spring and Beyond (Ricardo René Larémont, ed. Routledge, 2013) and The Oxford Handbook of Islam and Politics (John L. Esposito and Emad El-Din Shahin, eds. Oxford University Press, 2013).
