Poet Diane Glancy wrote, "I think in terms of revision because I have been revised." A finished memoir should reflect growth, rather than remain a static example of who the writer was in a specific time and place. In this workshop, you will learn valuable strategies for revising a memoir, including shaping a compelling narrator, knowing when (and how) to cut your favorite paragraph (or chapter!) and determining how to work well with an editor. We'll also read assigned memoirs and look at sections in various stages of revision to give students the opportunity to see a memoir transition from draft one to ready for publication. We’ll welcome special guests, including an editor and/or agent (TBD) to speak to the class about best practices for publication-seeking memoirists. And then we’ll conclude the workshop by discussing memoir publication contests, agent and editor query letters, and the creation of the all-important book proposal.

Class writers MUST have at least 40 pages (or two chapters) minimum of a memoir drafted.
