Training Purpose:

The GFSC expects businesses to have a Business Risk Assessment that is not off-the-shelf, but reflective of a business’s strategy, products and services. These workshops have been designed to facilitate the process of reviewing a Business Risk Assessment to reflect the changes to Guernsey’s AML / CFT Handbook, Schedule 3 and (when released) the National Risk Assessment.

Series Content:

During these workshops attendees will be guided through:

  • A gap analysis to identify what work needs to be undertaken
  • Tailoring your current Business Risk Assessment to meet current requirements
  • Aligning your BRA to the National Business Risk Assessment
  • Quality control of your Business Risk Assessment


(03 June) Workshop 1: Closing the Gaps and Setting the Scene (09:00 - 12:00)

This session will walk through:

  • Identifying gaps missing in your current BRA to bring it to compliance
  • the layout, context and content of your BRA
  • the incorporation of meaningful statistics

(17 June) Workshop 2: Risk Assessment and Risk Appetite (09:00 - 12:00)

This session will walk through:

  • Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing risk exposure
  • Developing separate risk assessments
  • Identifying relevant risk factors
  • Risk appetite alignment

(08 July) Workshop 3: Operational Risk, Procedures and Controls (09:00 - 12:00)

This session will walk through:

  • Operational risk factors and mitigation
  • Alignment of BRA to procedures and policies
  • Customer relationships, due diligence and employees

(16 Sept) Workshop 4: Alignment to the National Risk Assessment (09:00 - 12:00)

This session will walk through:

  • The outcomes of the National Risk Assessment (when released)
  • Alignment of the BRA to NRA
  • Sense checking BRA development progress


Series Requirements:

Bring either a draft copy of your current BRA (and some paper and pen) or a laptop with a draft copy of your BRA. Please note: your BRA is confidential, and you will not be asked to show or share this information with anyone – it is purely to provide you with the opportunity to work on it during the workshops. Alternatively, please remove all confidential information and bring a document with the headings and gaps to make notes on.


Audience:

MLRO’s, Compliance Officers and anyone responsible for ensuring a company is operating in compliance with the GFSC AML/CFT regulations.

Trainer:

Paula Williams (MBA, Dip Tertiary Tchg) is the Managing Director of Island Consortium Training in Guernsey, a non-executive director for the Channel Islands Co-operative Society and Chair for the Bailiwick of Guernsey Scout Association. As a trainer, Paula has successfully implemented business transformation initiatives and numerous change training programmes including FATCA, Global Standards and GDPR in Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man.
