Overview: in Revelation chapter 7, we see the imagery of all the tribes of Israel uniting under the lamb of God. In this retreat, we are bringing together our youth groups to bring them deeper into the mystery that was revealed to the beloved disciple John. More than any other book of the Bible, in the Book of Revelation God has provided us with a powerful spiritual world view and outline for worship. In this retreat, teens from youth groups all over the city will gather and spend a weekend immersed in one of those transformative books of the Bible and seeking to encounter the same God who revealed himself so powerfully to the apostle John 2000 years ago.
Friday night session 1 - “behold I stand at the door and knock.” (Revelation 3)
The opening session of the retreat is an invitation to answer Jesus's invitation to open the door of our hearts and enter into a personal and intimate relationship with our Lord. A relationship with Jesus is as unique and special as every individual person and is what our hearts long for. This session will end with an opportunity for each person to hear the Lord's knocking on their heart and open the door for a fresh love Encounter with Jesus. (Speaker: Patrick Reis, St Patrick)
Saturday morning session 2 - “Holy, holy, holy!” (Rev 4-5)
In Revelation chapters 4 and 5 God gives us a glimpse of the power, glory, beauty, and mystery of what heavenly worship looks like. We come to see that our ultimate lifestyle is defined by worship and worship of God is the destiny that we are made for in heaven. This session will unpack the identity that God has given us, the saints, as priests and kings as well as the elements of worship the God is inviting us into. We will close the session by seeking after a deeper experience of worship.(Speaker: Brendan O’Rourke, St Catharine)
Saturday late morning session 3 - “War arose in heaven” (Rev 12)
This session unpacks the drama of the spiritual warfare that we have been born into. This session also highlights the importance of the role that God has given to Mary and the assurance of victory that we have in Christ the King. The session will also provide an overview of the mission we have as soldiers for Christ and the weapons of our warfare to extend his kingdom and bring heaven to earth! (Speaker: Adam Boyden, St Brendan)
Saturday afternoon will consist of lunch, followed by three hours of paintball, archery tag, and free time. There were also be a time for showers before the Saturday vigil Mass.
Saturday Session 4 - Late afternoon Vigil Mass and Teaching Homily (The Lamb’s Supper)
This mass will serve not only as a vigil mass, but the homily will be teaching homely to catechize everyone on the connection between the The liturgy and the book of Revelation. The chaplain of the retreat will preside over this mass and be responsible for this homily. (Celebrant & Homilist: Fr Thompson)
Saturday evening session 5 - “The Lamp was the Lamb” (Rev 21)
Revelation chapter 21 God reveals to us that he's coming back for immature and spotless bride and shows us an image of what heaven looks like as a new Jerusalem. Got also reveals to us his power to heal from all suffering and to make all things new. Finally he shows us that the lamb reigns over the new Jerusalem and provides it with light. In the session we will allow the power of this mystery to consume our hearts and cry out for the lamb to come and give us light as we adore him all evening(speaker: Aaron Richards, Damascus Mission Campus).
Sunday morning session 6 - “Behold, I am coming soon!” (Rev 22)
As Revelation 22 is the final chapter of the book, the session provides the perfect closing for the retreat. In the session, we will unpack the final message in the prompting that we do not know the day or the hour of Jesus's return for our lives. As God gives final encouragement and counsel, we shall impart that same encouragement Isnd faithfulness to everyone as they finish the retreat. (Speaker: Meg Heller, St Michael)
