Event description

Description

Presented by WBEZ's Podcast Passport in partnership with The Fest, curated by Third Coast.

Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting and PRX is a Peabody award-winning public radio show and podcast that takes listeners inside hidden worlds, exposes injustice and highlights the impact of investigative reporting. For decades, host Al Letson has explored race in America as a poet, playwright and performer. For the last year and half, Reveal has been investigating the eruption of hate and extremism in this country.

On November 1, Letson will step away from the live podcast norm to premiere a stage performance that depicts the motivation fueling hostility and explores what divides us and what unifies us.

While covering a political protest in Berkeley, California, on August 27, 2017, Letson found himself lying on top of a far-right provocateur, shielding him from a violent beating by anti-fascists. In this moving, must-see show, Letson will act out the events of this day to embody the many diverse individuals he has interviewed - white nationalists, administration insiders and thought leaders across the political spectrum – and shed light on the issues of extremism.

Through tough, yet personal interviews, Al has revealed the deep roots and motivations that are fueling the violent protests.

This premiere production of Reveal Live, written and performed by Letson and directed by StoryWorks' Jennifer Welch creates a visceral solo performance you will not forget.

Acclamations from Past Productions:

“truly moving” … “impeccable impressions of the folks he changed, and who changed him” … “provides a spark for dialogue and movement toward change, shedding a hopeful light on reality” –San Francisco Examiner
